Membership benefits include monthly seminars, networking, a monthly
branch newsletter, password protected areas of the website, discounts
at CWC related events and a bimonthly CWC Bulletin.
There are two categories of membership, Active
and Associate:
Active Membership
- Fiction, Nonfiction or Poetry:
Have a book published within the past ten years or have a book currently
under contract; or publication or acceptance within the past three
years of three stories in a periodical or periodicals of general
circulation. General circulation is distribution of at least one
thousand copies.
- Photojournalist:
Generally the same as for fiction, nonfiction or poetry, except including
material submitted for consideration should contain photographs and
text of evident quality.
- Playwrights:
An applicant for membership as a writer of plays must have publication
within the past five years in book form of at least one play by a
publisher of standing or production of scripts as follows:
- Stage performance within past five years, or
- Screen production within past five years, or
- Radio: Three shows within past five years, or
- Television: Three productions within five years.
- Literary Occupations:
Editors, feature writers, columnist or regular bylined reporters
may be considered eligible for membership, provided the work is the
writer's professional occupation.
- Self Publishers:
Self Publishers or Electronic Publishers, whose material has been
published under their own imprint, will be judged at the discretion
of the branch accreditation committee. The material will be judged
on professional presentation of writing style and graphics, and plans
of distribution.
- Electronic Publishers:
Electronic Publishers whose material fits the criteria above, will
be reviewed at the discretion of the branch accreditation committee.
The material will be judged on professional presentation of writing
style and graphics.
Associate Membership
- Writers who do not meet the above qualifications may submit samples
of "work in progress", including any project, published
work, and/or contest entries. Genres may be mixed.
- Associate membership also includes non-writing literary professionals,
including agents, booksellers, publishers, producers, directors and
book illustrators.
Fees and Dues
The annual membership fee is $45, with a one-time $20 initiation
fee for new members, for a total of $65.00 for the fiscal year, July
1 to June 30. After January 1, the fee is $42.50 for the half-year.
