Thriving in the Age of Connection: The Building Blocks for Constructing a Successful Writing Career

Now is a challenging time to become a successful author, but it’s also the best. The opportunities for reaching readers, promoting your work, and profiting from it are far greater than ever. But there are fifteen building blocks that you have to put together to achieve the success you want. This talk, laced with humor, will tell you how to build a career as an author block by block and book by book. Mike and Elizabeth will give you a perspective on writing, agenting, and publishing that will enlighten and inspire you. You will also receive more than fifteen pages of helpful handouts.

Michael Larsen and his wife Elizabeth Pomada started Larsen-Pomada Literary Agents in San Francisco in 1972. They are members of AAR and have sold books to more than 100 publishers. Mike is the author of How to Write a Book Proposal and How to Get a Literary Agent. Mike and Elizabeth are co-directors of the San Francisco Writers Conference.

Our meeting Sunday has a NEW development:

Elizabeth and Mike would like to give you feedback about your pitches and your work during their talk. They are holding a pitch and first-page contest in which everyone wins. If you wish to enter the contest, please bring two copies of a 25-word pitch aimed at agents and editors for an adult fiction or nonfiction book. You are also welcome to bring two copies of the first 250 words of either a novel, a narrative nonfiction book or a proposal.

We'll collect the entries at the beginning of the meeting, and Elizabeth and Michael will choose the ones to discuss. The winner of each contest will receive one of Mike's books: How to Write a Book Proposal, How to Get a Literary Agent, or Guerrilla Marketing for Writers: 100 Weapons for Selling Your Work. But everyone wins because what we learn will make all our pitches, proposals, and writing stronger.

Mike will be also available to give you personal feedback on your copy after the talk.

Elizabeth and Mike are looking forward to meeting you, answering your questions, and having fun!

We're preparing a pile of colorful and extremely informative handouts that you will want to collect.
